with 14 comments

OpenStack Beginner’s Guide  V2.0 for Diablo on Ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric is now available as a pdf file. Please have a look it and let us know if you have any comments/suggestions/feedback. We will do our best to enhance the guide based on your suggestions.

We would like to thank  Anne Gentle and  all participants of DocBlitz sessions and several others who have given feedback on these pages, on the documentation pages of OpenStack and offline through emails.

What’s new in V2.0:

  1. Procedure for using PostgreSQL for Nova added
  2. Swift added to Installation & Configuration chapter and Storage Management chapter
  3. Revised the commands line options to be in sync with Diablo
  4. Dropped Dashboard section, for now, as the new version of Dashboard relies on Key Stone. We will include them back once the key issues releated to Keystone/Dashboard on Ubuntu get resolved.
  5. Dropped Role Based Access Control Chapter. This is undergoing rewrite and we will add it soon.
  6. Some language errors fixed
  7. Some errors in the architecture diagrams fixed

  1. Hi at all,

Thank you very much for this publication. How soon will become part of the information OpenStack Dashboard, Keystone, see also Quantum? In order not to manage resources on the command line, a chapter on Hybridfox would be welcome.

    • Hi Laurent,

      Thank you for the suggestions.

I am not sure about Quantum, but Keystone and Dashboard will be added very soon to the guide. We are also working with our colleagues at CSS Corp to get OpenStack/Diablo support in Hybrid Fox and will add a section on HybridFox as soon as that happens.

  3. Hi Murthy first of all thanks for the publication.

following it so far has worked in getting the servers running. But i have a problem with connecting the client as this gives a error, is there anything i am missing?

    ~/creds$ euca-describe-availability-zones verbose
Warning: failed to parse error message from AWS: :1:0: syntax error
    None: None

  4. Hi, very good information. I’ve come across a glitch that I have no idea on how to fix. After following the whole install (skipped the swift part) I cannot run a “euca-describe-images” command (sourced novarc all good). Describe zones is correct, but describe-images (and publish images as well) have the following error:

    # euca-describe-images
UnknownError: An unknown error has occurred. Please try your request again.

    I’ve tracked a similar report here: https://answers.launchpad.net/nova/+question/174340

    Any idea?

  6. Hello,
Thanks for this great introduction. It helps a lot.
I found two questions in the document:
    1. in page 19, nova.conf file: –glance_api_servers=192.168.3.2:9292
    should be –glacnce_api_servers=192.168.3.1:9292 ?

    2. in page 19, nova.conf: –vlan_interface=br100
    should be –vlan_interface=eth1 ?

    Thanks
